Dr. Edwards sees clients on Tuesdays and Thursdays. After school hours are 3:00-8:00, last appointment at 7:00. Evaluations require many hours and are typically scheduled on weekends. Dr. Kellie Edwards is a licensed psychologist who works with infants, children, adolescents, young adults, and parents. She was outstanding senior in psychology at Western Kentucky University. She completed her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Clinical Psychology at Auburn University, with an additional specialty in Child Clinical Psychology. Her doctoral internship was done at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Medicine. She has been at the Behavioral Institute of Atlanta since 1999.
In therapy, Dr. Edwards teaches cognitive-behavioral strategies (CBT) to children and adolescents, to help manage stress, worry, anger, and disappointment they sometimes feel. She works with parents to manage difficult child and adolescent reactions including inflexibility, rigid/oppositional behavior, refusal, crying, arguing, yelling, high anxiety, and tantrums/meltdowns/outbursts. These behaviors may interfere with daily activities such as morning routine, getting to school, meals, homework, chores, bedtime, trips out in public, family activities, and toileting. She often works with multiple family members, including parents and siblings, to help wih problem-solving and conflict resolution.
Dr. Edwards provides psychoeducational evaluations for attention deficit disorders, learning and cognitive processing difficulties, anxiety, depression, and other emotional and behavioral problems. She also has a specialty in the assessment of autism spectrum disorders, including the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2). She offers developmental assessments for individuals with premature birth, medical complications, or genetic syndromes. She tests individuals who are nonverbal or have language delays as well as those who are verbally fluent and gifted.
